My 1 Minute “Ugly Snack”

I love pretty food, but sometimes you just need something that will get the job done. In this case, the job is getting you out the door or fueled for your workout. It’s ugly, but delicious and packs a powerful boost of nutrients your body needs!

My 1 Minute “Ugly snack” is great as a preworkout snack because it has quick energy plus some healthy fat and some protein, which will help slow the absorption of your carbohydrates. Clients often rush into their workout from a meeting or a day that’s gone awry, and they haven’t eaten enough to have a great workout. But this snack is super easy to make and pack, even on the most hectic of mornings.

Here’s what I love about this snack:

Honey is great for boosting immunity (also acts as an anti-bacterial!) plus it provides quick energy.

The banana will give you also give you some quick energy plus fiber and potassium.

Flaxseed is a great source of inflammation busting omega3s, and cinnamon helps improve your metabolism and stabilize your blood sugar.

The nut butter (I used almond, but you could use peanut or whatever suits your fancy) provides a little bit of protein and some healthy fat.

For my workout needs, I used 1/2 banana, 1 T Almond butter, 1 T local honey, 1 T flax seeds. Just schmear (smeary-er than just smearing) the nut butter on the banana, top with the flax seeds, drizzle with honey, and sprinkle with cinnamon.

And poof! A snack for a rockstar-to-be.
